A news report stated that doctors monitored an increasing outbreak of a new and contagious disease affecting young children, bearing the name "tomato flu".

And the British newspaper "The Sun" reported, Thursday evening, that 80 children had been infected with "tomato flu" in India.

The new virus causes a red rash and fever-like symptoms caused by bedbugs.

Doctors told the British medical journal, The Lancet, that the disease was highly contagious, and they feared it could spread to adults as well.

They added that this flu acquired its name as a result of the appearance of red and painful blisters in all parts of the body, before it gradually swelled to become the size of a tomato.

Like other viral illnesses, other symptoms include fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, dehydration, and body aches, similar to those of the flu.

While it is known that this disease leads to skin irritation, researchers are still trying to find out what exactly causes these symptoms.

Indian Health Minister J. Radhakrishnan said the infection is a new type of hand, foot and mouth disease.

The Indian authorities said that 82 cases were monitored in recent months, and all injuries were among children under the age of 5 years.

There is no evidence yet that this virus is serious or life-threatening, and sick children were treated with traditional medicines such as paracetamol, rest and plenty of fluids.
