Researchers encouraged people to eat less meat and more fruits and vegetables, saying it could help prevent premature deaths, after a study they prepared concluded.


The researchers, who work at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, stated that they advise people to eat the equivalent of 350 calories, including meat, dairy and fish, per day, according to the British newspaper, "Daily Mail".


These quantities are equivalent to a large piece of chicken breast.


The researchers estimated that residents of the Group of Twenty countries currently eat an average of 620 calories from animal products, the equivalent of two large pieces of beef.


They stated that people should eat 720 calories from vegetables and fruits, for example: apples, bananas, and leafy green vegetables, equivalent to 200 calories.


Why do we have to do all this?


Researchers say changing eating habits will reduce obesity-related deaths, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer.


Ayman Sater, one of the participants in the research, stated that there are significant benefits as a result of changing the diet.


A poor diet is defined as one that includes eating a lot of salt and a little of the following: whole grains, vegetables, fruits, omega-3 fatty acids, nuts and seeds.


This diet causes the death of 11 million people around the world annually, as a result of diseases such as heart disease and colorectal cancer.


The researchers developed 4 scenarios for recovery from Covid-19 disease, which examined how policies designed to promote healthy diets would affect them.


The study, published in the Lancet Planetary Health journal, concluded that switching to a plant-based diet would prevent 2,583 premature deaths per million people by 2060.


With the Earth's population expected to reach 10 billion that year, this means that 26 million people will be protected from premature death in 2060.
