Among those scientific studies, an American study conducted at West Florist University demonstrated that aerobic exercise works to prevent dementia.

Where the American study was conducted with the participation of 16 men and women who suffer from problems with cognitive impairment. They ranged in age from 60 to 63, and during the six months they did aerobic exercise four times a week. During the study, the participants relied on the use of some types of sports equipment that helped them to perform these exercises professionally, including the treadmill, or the stationary bike.

In the same study, about 19 people with an average age of about 67 years participated, and the study directed them to practice stretching exercises for four times a week, and over the course of the study for six months. Their primary reliance was only on stretching, without aerobic exercise. The researchers made a comparison between these two groups, the first whose participants practiced aerobic exercises, and the second exercised stretching exercises for the same period of time. After the end of the study, the participants in both groups underwent some brain scans.

After the results of the tests appeared, the scientists concluded that the first group of people, who did aerobic exercise, achieved significant increases in brain volume, and their brain cells regenerated at a greater rate than the second group in which participants did stretching exercises. The researchers also discovered that people in the aerobic group had significantly improved thinking and memory skills, compared to people participating in the stretching group, who did not show any positive changes in their memory, with no improvement in their cognitive powers.

Here, the study confirms that aerobic exercise helps protect people from dementia. After the researchers found in the study that aerobic exercises contribute to enhancing human mental abilities and productivity. It also helps increase brain function, while strengthening memory and improving central nervous system functions. In addition, doing aerobic exercises helps improve focus, increase creativity and productivity. After the results of the study appeared, Laura Baker, assistant professor in the Department of Gerontology and Geriatrics at West Florset University School of Medicine and the principal investigator in the study, said: It was possible to notice positive changes caused by aerobic exercise even after a short period of exercise. Therefore, this study confirmed that Any type of exercise will benefit the person doing it, but aerobic exercise may also have benefits on the level of cognitive function.
