Putin tells Macron: The battle in Ukraine continues

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his intention to continue his  relentless  offensive against  nationalists  in Ukraine, during a telephone conversation with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron according to the Kremlin.

During this call, Putin also expressed his  disapproval of a speech on Ukraine given by Macron the day before, and threatened that he might expand his already long list of demands from Kyiv during the talks, according to the same source.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine entered its second week, Thursday, amid what appears to have failed in planning so far, as its main offensive force stopped days ago on a highway north of Kyiv, and other incursions stopped on the outskirts of heavily bombed cities.

The United Nations said that the number of refugees who fled Ukraine had risen to more than a million, hundreds of Russian soldiers and Ukrainian civilians had been killed, and Russia itself had fallen into isolation that an economy of this size had never been exposed to.

Despite the initial battle plan that Western countries said was aimed at quickly overthrowing the Kyiv government, Russia has so far captured only one Ukrainian city, Kherson on the Dnipro River, which its tanks entered on Wednesday.

Britain's Ministry of Defense said in an intelligence update:  The main part of the large Russian column advancing towards Kyiv is still more than 30 km from the city centre, having been delayed due to Ukrainian resistance, mechanical failure and crowding.

She added The column has not made significant progress in more than 3 days. Despite the heavy Russian bombing, the cities of Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Mariupol are still in the possession of the Ukrainians.
