The resolution of inflammation takes place via the action of resolvins, maresins and protectins, the SPMsSpecialized Pro-resolving Mediators.

Among the natural solutions to reduce inflammation, the long chain omega 3 EPA eicosapentaenoic acid and DHA docosahexaenoic acid are currently very popular. The inflammatory response, a natural defense mechanism

Protective role of PMS

These SPMs are produced to enable the complete shutdown of inflammation by the human body. These molecules are produced during the resolution phase of inflammation and prevent the inflammation from persisting chronically or even silently. Indeed, these resolution mediators will:

promote healing and better recovery after infection or injury,

improve healing and prevent fibrosis so that the tissues regain flexibility and functionality,

avoid letting the inflammation take hold and get worse.

 

How to promote the production of SPM in our body?

 

As we have seen, SPMs come from the metabolism of EPA and DHA, so it is important to consume enough of them so that the membranes (storage site for fatty acids) of our cells are rich in omega 3 which will be used to manufacture MPS in the event of an attack.


However, not all omega 3s are created equal! They are not all assimilated in the same way. Thus we compared 18 different food sources of EPA and DHA by studying the amount of SPM produced by immune cells subjected to inflammation.
