Ukraine announced, on Monday, that it had received thousands of requests from foreigners, expressing their readiness to join what it called the  International Legion  which President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed his intention to form to fight Russian forces.


 We have already received several thousand requests from foreigners who want to join the resistance against the Russian occupiers, protect global security from (Russian President Vladimir) Putin  Ukraine's Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar said on Facebook.


On Sunday, Ukrainian President Zelensky said Ukraine would set up a foreign  international  corps of volunteers from abroad.


 This will be the main evidence of your support for our country Zelensky said in a statement.


Since the beginning of the war, the Ukrainian authorities have spoken of their need to help civilians in fighting Russian forces, and videos have shown the distribution of hand weapons to urban residents.


Military developments go hand in hand with the negotiations, which already began between Ukraine and Russia, on Monday, to avoid further escalation.


Ukraine's presidential adviser, Mikhailo Podolyak, told Reuters in a text message on Monday that talks between Ukraine and Russia had begun at a site on the border with Belarus.


And Ukraine had said earlier that its delegation had arrived at the Belarusian border, with the aim of holding talks with the Russian side to end the invasion, which began Thursday.


 The main objective of the talks with Russia is an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of Russian forces the Ukrainian president's office said.


These developments come after Russian negotiator and Kremlin adviser Vladimir Medinsky said that Moscow wants to reach an  agreement  with Kyiv.


 The longer the conflict lasts for an additional hour, the more Ukrainian citizens and soldiers will die Medinsky told Russian television We agreed to reach an agreement, but it should be in the interest of both sides.
