On Sunday, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, France, Norway and Sweden closed their airspace to Russian airlines in response to the invasion of Ukraine.


The German Ministry of Transport said that Germany will close its airspace to Russian airlines and all private aircraft, starting at 14:00 GMT Sunday, according to Agence France-Presse.


She added that this ban is valid for three months and does not include potential humanitarian flights.


For its part, Italy announced the closure of its airspace to Russia, without specifying a date for the implementation of the decision.


 Italy is closing its airspace to Russia an Italian government spokesman said in a statement.


For his part, Belgian Prime Minister Alexandre de Croo said on Sunday that his country would close its airspace to  all Russian companies .


He wrote on Twitter:  The sky is open in Europe, but it is open to those who connect people, not to those who commit brutal attacks. 


These countries joined Poland, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Bulgaria, Finland, Denmark, Moldova and Britain, all of which announced a similar measure.


For his part, French Transport Minister Jean-Baptiste Degabary said that France announced that it would follow the example of other European countries in closing its airspace to Russian aircraft due to the invasion of Ukraine.


 France will close its airspace to all Russian planes and airlines from this evening  Dagbary said on Twitter.


Moscow first took the initiative to ban the flights of aircraft associated with these European countries over its territory, including transit flights.


Lufthansa, the largest European airline group, said it expected retaliatory measures of this kind against its planes, and on Saturday suspended flights to and over Russia.
