Snow demonstrations Protest marches in Canada against Corona restrictions in 2022

The Canadian capital, Ottawa, witnessed a number of protest marches and gatherings in the streets and squares to protest against the mandatory vaccinations, masks and closures, amid the bad weather in the country, including snowfall and low temperatures, according to the Reuters news agency website.

Some protesters likened Covid restrictions to fascism, used Nazi symbols on upturned Canadian flags, and one of the trucks carried the Confederate flag, while many carried banners laden with phrases targeting Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Protest organizers called on Trudeau and all county governments to rescind all COVID-19 restrictions and mandatory vaccinations as a bell sounded in downtown Ottawa, as a convoy of trucks and cars pulled up around Parliament House and another at the war memorial before police told them to leave.

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson wrote on Twitter that "parking on this Holy Land that includes the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a sign of a total lack of respect" and prompted the convoy of truckers and others to prepare for possible violence, as well as the government to warn against escalating rhetoric linked to the demonstration. Meanwhile, a senior security official in Parliament recommended that MPs close their doors amid reports that their homes may be targeted.
