Since Saturday morning, Kiev has been subjected to missile bombardment and has witnessed battles between Russian forces and the Ukrainian army, whose President Volodymyr Zelensky called on his people to fight to repel the Russian attack that has killed two hundred civilians so far, according to Ukraine.

On the other hand, in a new video recording, Zelensky confirmed Saturday that Ukraine had  derailed  the Russian attack plan.

 We have withstood the enemy's attacks  he said, adding that the fighting continues in many towns and regions in the country, but it is our army that controls Kiev and the main cities throughout the capital. 


On the third day of the Russian attack on Ukraine, clashes are taking place in Kiev between the forces of the two sides in order to control the capital. Fighting took place on Victory Avenue, one of Kiev's main arteries, hours after Zelensky called for a mobilization.

Volodymyr Zelensky called on the population to take up arms and vowed that he would remain in the capital, stressing that Western arms were on their way to support the Ukrainians.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Kiev announced on Saturday the tightening of the curfew imposed in the capital, warning that anyone who will be on the streets between 17:00 and 8:00 will be treated as an enemy. All civilians on the streets during the curfew will be considered members of the enemy's sabotage and reconnaissance groups,said Vitali Klitschko.

For his part, Ukrainian Health Minister Viktor Lyashko announced on Facebook Saturday that 198 civilians were killed, including three children, and more than a thousand others wounded since the start of the Russian invasion of the country three days ago. Unfortunately, according to the data, 198 people were killed by the invaders, including three children, and 1,115 others were injured, including 33 children,he said.

Also, dozens of soldiers were killed, while Russia did not announce any outcome. Kiev says it inflicted heavy losses on the Russian army.

Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed in a video clip that it was a difficult night in the capital with the presence of Russian subversive units but not yet regular military units.

The Russian army is trying to enter Kiev from the north and northeast, with the entry of troops from neighboring Belarus. The Ukrainian army also reported "heavy  battles 30 km southwest of Kiev, where it said the Russians were  trying to land paratroopers .

Correspondents reported that artillery and missile fire reverberated intermittently in northwest Kiev. A high-rise apartment building in the capital was hit by a missile, according to the Ukrainian authorities, who did not provide information on any possible victims at the moment.


The Ukrainian ground forces also announced on Facebook that they had destroyed a Russian convoy of five military vehicles, including a tank, near the Perestiska metro station on Victory Avenue in the northwest of the capital.

For its part, the Russian Defense Ministry did not talk about any attack on Kiev, only announcing the launch of cruise missiles at the military infrastructure and the progress on the ground in the east, where the Russian army supports separatists in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and in southern Ukraine, where Russian forces entered Monday from the Crimea which it incorporated in 2014.

On the other hand, the Russian Communications Regulatory Authority on Saturday asked national media to delete reports describing Moscow's attack on Ukraine as an  attack, invasion or declaration of war .


On the road between Kramatorsk and Dnipro in eastern Ukraine, AFP journalists noticed a large number of Ukrainian military convoys. Military checkpoints were set up at the entrances and exits of every major city in this region.


Regarding refugees, Polish Deputy Interior Minister Paul Svernaker announced Saturday that 100,000 Ukrainians have crossed the Polish border since the start of the attack. Since the start of military operations in Ukraine, 100,000 people crossed the border from Ukraine into Poland  he told reporters, whom he met in the border village of Medica.


In the new Russian positions, Moscow announced the closure of its airspace to aircraft coming from Bulgaria, Poland and the Czech Republic.


As expected, Russia vetoed a draft resolution drafted by the United States and Albania in the UN Security Council on Friday, condemning  in the strongest terms its aggression against Ukraine  and calling on it to withdraw its forces from this country  immediately  despite the support of most countries.
